Charity Transforms NYC Dumping Ground into Urban Forest
This November, a park-turned-dumping ground near New York’s Yankee Stadium was given new life as a thriving urban forest. For the past month, the New York Restoration Project has been working to transform the site from one of smashed bottles and cracked cement into a lush, forested park. The final trees were planted with the help of Rolling Stones keyboardist and private tree farmer, Chuck Leavell, and New York Giants wide receiver, Amani Toomer, whose own foundation also helps to restore community parks and playgrounds.
A non-profit organization, the New York Restoration Project was founded by entertainer Bette Midler “in the belief that clean and green neighborhoods are fundamental to the quality of life and that every community in New York City deserves an oasis of natural beauty.
