The St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral is one of Europe’s most impressive, yet surprisingly it’s often overlooked. In French, it’s called Cathédrale Saints-Michel-et-Gudule and in Dutch Sint-Michiels en Sint-Goedelekathedraal.

The Roman Catholic church sits proudly at Treurenberg Hill, towering over the city streets with it’s powerful presence. We actually stumbled on the historical church while walking to the popular Grand Place and Town Hall.

We were instantly drawn to its Gothic architecture and decided to return later that evening to capture the cathedral at night. We love how the bright lights illuminate the cathedral, creating a dramatic and mysterious setting that’s perfect for a Hollywood movie.

It’s easy to see why it’s become a top tourist attraction in Brussels – it’s incredible!

Travel tip: Like most big cities in Europe, Brussels is not cheap. An easy way to safe money is to avoid dining at overpriced restaurants that cater to tourists (stay away from the restaurants located close to the Grand Place). It’s not hard to find a supermarket in Brussels, so consider buying your food and drinks at the supermarket instead of eating every meal at a restaurant. Your travel budget will thank you.
